Incitec Pivot Limited (IPL) has launched a new Indigenous Scholarship program to increase opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying in Queensland.

Run in partnership with James Cook University and the University of Queensland, eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are encouraged to apply for the program which will provide opportunities to work across IPL’s businesses, including Dyno Nobel and Incitec Pivot Fertilisers.

The program will commence in early 2022 and students are eligible if they are studying undergraduate degrees in: Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical); Health and Safety; and Business at James Cook University or the University of Queensland.

“We are very excited to be launching our new Indigenous Scholarship program. By partnering with the universities, we will be able to provide hands-on, practical skills and knowledge for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students that complements their studies. We want to help set these students up for future employment, ideally with us at IPL,” Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific President Greg Hayne said.

The program will support students financially while studying and give them the opportunity to work with IPL during their university breaks as part IPL’s Vacation Student program. Students in the program will be encouraged to apply for IPL graduate programs post completion of their studies.

Mr Hayne said the program was part of IPL’s commitment to grow, develop and deepen the diversity of its workforce.

“Diversity really is our strength and by employing people from a range of backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, our workforce benefits by gaining new perspectives and understandings.

“James Cook University and the University of Queensland have been a great partner to work with and we thank them for their expertise, support guidance so we could make the program a reality,” Mr Hayne said.
