Your IPL Graduate questions answered!

When can I apply for a position in the IPL Engineering Graduate Program?

Each year in July/August, IPL will advertise for the graduate positions for the next calendar year through our corporate website and related social media platform. University Engineering faculties on Australia's east coast will also be made aware of the upcoming recruitment process so your university career counselor may also let you know.

IPL has various sites and the grad program is on a rotating roster. How does the rotating roster work?

You can expect to rotate on average every 6 – 12 months, sometimes if the operations are transitioning through a busy time you could be extended on that rotation. Your actual roster will be aligned to the operational needs of the site. For example, site rosters could be 8 days on, 6 days off or 4 days on, 3 days off or you may find yourself working within a team where a more traditional Monday to Friday roster is required.

Apart from the rotating roster in our plants in Australia would there be an opportunity for us to work in the US?
If there is a business requirement to transfer you to our US operations, we are open to exploring these opportunities.

What is unique about IPL grad program compared to other grad programs?
We offer a small, customised and highly interactive program verses large cohort programs where you can get lost, be exposed to limited operations and develop at a much slower pace. Our two year program connects you with existing graduates, technical experts, operational mentors and the full HR support you need to feel welcomed, prepared and can see how your development is tracking. We encourage and offer you opportunities to have new experiences and work across various machinery/equipment in a safe, hands-on manner. You will enjoy an inclusive workplace culture where “no question is a silly question” and your teams are dedicated to supporting a great learning experience.

Do you provide accommodation/ allowances when I am living away from home?

Absolutely, IPL are here to make your employment as streamlined as possible to set you up for success now and in the future. We provide site based provisions, including accommodation, transport, PPE and related site suppliers so we can concentrate on being safe, secure and productive every day. Your colleagues have been through the same onboarding/site inductions, reach out and ask as many questions as you like, the local teams are your best source of information for navigating you day to day life at IPL.

Can we chose our preferred location/site?
Our two year full time program offers initial rotations at either our two residential sites – Gibson Island (Brisbane) and Moranbah or our FIFO operation at Phosphate Hill which is a weekly charter from Townsville. Throughout the recruitment process our HR team will identify your current location and talk with you on your preferences and ability to travel with work and explore other parts of Queensland. We are here to offer multiple pathways to be the best engineer you can be which includes a balance between residential and FIFO locations.

Is IPL an equal opportunity employer and will I meet and work with diverse people?
