IPL Welcomes Commencement of Northern Gas Pipeline
Incitec Pivot Limited is pleased to be working with Central Petroleum and welcomes the commencement of the Northern Gas Pipeline which now enables supply of gas from the Northern Territory to the East Coast domestic gas market.
Running from Tennant Creek to Mount Isa, the Northern Gas Pipeline is an important element of Queensland’s gas infrastructure, and will be utilised in the supply of gas to IPL’s Gibson Island Plant throughout the 2019 calendar year.
The completion of the Northern Gas Pipeline also means long term gas supply has begun to IPL’s Phosphate Hill’s Plant.
Jeanne Johns, IPL Managing Director & CEO said “This is a significant achievement and is credit to Central Petroleum, APA, Jemena and Power & Water Corporation who have worked diligently to make this happen. The completion of this major gas infrastructure project will not only support Australian manufacturing, it will also support jobs in Queensland.”
Ms Johns continued, “however, while we are pleased to now be receiving interim gas to Gibson Island, we still have work to do to secure a sustainable future for the plant with an affordable, reliable source of natural gas.
“We are continuing work on our gas tenement joint venture with Central Petroleum, and are anticipating that it will yield gas from 2022, but in the interim, we are continuing to pursue affordable gas supply to the plant to bridge between the end of 2019 and tenement production in 2022.”
Paying tribute to direct and indirect employees across IPL’s Gibson Island plant and Brisbane Operations, Ms Johns thanked them for their patience and support as the 2019 interim gas supply arrangements were finalised. “Our people have continued to maintain their focus on safe and reliable operations which is of paramount importance,” Ms Johns said.
