Incitec Pivot has embarked on a comprehensive program to inform growers of effective substitutes for ammonium nitrate fertilisers.
The company withdrew its straight ammonium nitrate products from the market following security concerns. Some other suppliers have taken similar action.
"Our information program will advise growers that there are effective alternatives that they can switch to," said Scott Bowman, Incitec Pivot's Product Manager - Pasture.
The three-stage information program includes:
1) Distribution of an ammonium nitrate product substitution guide giving an overview of the alternatives available;
2) Provision of product-specific facts sheets providing further information on each of the alternatives; and
3) Publication of crop-specific product substitution technical notes providing details of the agronomic qualities of the alternatives in individual applications.
These documents are available from Incitec Pivot dealers, agents and field staff.
In addition to these publications, the company will also conduct workshops for dealers and agents on the availability of appropriate substitutes.
"The workshops will focus on the delivery of nitrogen to various crops and will be held mainly in horticulture and dairy regions," Scott Bowman said.
The alternatives to ammonium nitrate fertiliser include Urea, Liquifert N, Cal-Am, N Sure, EASY N, Hydro-Calcinit, EASY Cal, Potassium Nitrate, Gran-Am and ammonium nitrate blends.
"We can assure farmers that, in every instance, effective substitutes are available for ammonium nitrate."
